ALTERNATIVE & REPLACEMENT PARTS

A Qualified Second Source for Thermal Spray Consumables

Sanmei manufactures replacement gun bodies, electrodes, nozzles, barrels and machined fittings for thermal spray systems. Each part is produced as an equivalent component from a part number, drawing, photograph or physical sample, so an existing installation can be supplied from a second source without changing its process.

Sanmei is an independent manufacturer and supplier of replacement parts. We are not authorised, appointed or endorsed by any equipment manufacturer. See the disclaimer below.

THE SECOND-SOURCE DECISION

Why Buyers Look for an Alternative Source

Replacement purchasing is usually a risk decision before it is a price decision. These are the four pressures we are asked about most often.

01 · COST PRESSURE

Consumable spend concentrates in one place

Electrodes, nozzles and barrels are wear items replaced on a repeating cycle. When one supplier defines both the price and the replacement interval, the annual parts budget is difficult to influence from the shop floor.

02 · LEAD TIME

Quoted delivery does not always match the shutdown plan

Imported consumables can carry long quoted lead times. A delivery that slips past a planned maintenance window shifts the problem into production scheduling, where the options are limited.

03 · SINGLE-SOURCE RISK

One supplier is one point of failure

With a single qualified source, any change in capacity, pricing structure, minimum order quantity or distribution terms is passed directly to the buyer, usually without an alternative already on file.

04 · DOWNTIME RISK

A stopped cell is the expensive part

When a torch is out of service, the cost is measured in delayed work and idle labour rather than in the price of the component. A verified second source exists so one missing part cannot stop a coating line.

PRODUCT SCOPE

Product Types Suitable for Replacement Supply

The categories below are produced against the geometry and material of the component being replaced. Suitability is confirmed item by item, not by catalogue category.

Gun bodies

Housings and torch bodies carrying the main bore, taper and thread geometry.

Cathodes & anodes

Electrodes for plasma torches, including bonded tungsten-copper assemblies.

Nozzles

Plasma, HVOF and cold spray nozzles defined by bore profile and outlet diameter.

Barrels

Barrel and extension sections for combustion and high-velocity systems.

Combustion chambers

Chambers and chamber liners machined for pressure and mixing geometry.

Injectors

Powder and gas injectors, including fine-bore and multi-port variants.

Seals

High-wear seals, O-rings, insulators and insulating sleeves sized to the original seat.

Machined fittings

Adapters, unions, gas fittings and comparable small parts produced to drawing.

A component outside this list can still be reviewed: send the reference and the geometry will be assessed against our machining capability before anything is quoted.

COMPATIBILITY CONFIRMATION

What We Need to Confirm a Match

Any one of the four references below is enough to start. Where documentation is incomplete, a sample part is the most reliable input.

REF 01

Part number

The number on the component, the packing list or the maintenance record, together with the gun model or system it is fitted to.

REF 02

Technical drawing

A 2D drawing with dimensions and tolerances, or a 3D model. This is the strongest reference for critical features.

REF 03

Photograph

Clear images of the part from several angles, with any stamped marking legible, and one image showing it in place on the torch.

REF 04

Physical sample

A worn or new part sent for measurement. Return arrangements for the sample are agreed before it is shipped.

1:1 DIMENSIONAL VERIFICATION

Measured against the part, not against a photograph

A part number identifies a component; it does not define it. Before a replacement is released, the reference is measured and the machining programme is built from those numbers.

  • Critical dimensions, tapers, thread forms and sealing faces recorded from the reference part.
  • Drawing and sample compared for dimensional consistency before a price is issued.
  • Material and hardness confirmed for wear parts that carry heat or abrasion.
  • Where a dimension is ambiguous, the question is raised before manufacture rather than after delivery.

SMALL-BATCH VALIDATION

Qualify the Part Before You Commit Volume

The sequence below is the one we recommend for a first order. It is arranged so a replacement part is judged on your equipment and under your parameters before any serial supply begins.

01

Send the reference

A part number, drawing, photograph or sample, plus the gun model or system the component is fitted to.

02

Match

The reference is identified and measured, and we confirm whether it corresponds to a standard item or must be produced from the reference itself.

03

Quote

You receive the confirmed specification for the item, the unit price and the available quantity breaks, on the geometry that was verified.

04

Trial batch

A small batch is produced first, from the same material and the same machining programme that serial supply would use.

05

Verify in production

The trial parts run on your equipment, so coating quality, deposition behaviour and part life can be observed under your operating parameters.

06

Serial supply

On approval, repeat batches follow the qualified drawing and its inspection plan, scheduled against your consumption.

Trial quantities and the acceptance criteria are agreed in writing before the batch is produced, so both sides are judging the same result. Trial data stays with the part record for later batches.

MANUFACTURING & QC EVIDENCE

The Numbers That Decide Whether a Replacement Survives

Two measured values are specified on replacement wear parts. Both are verified during production, not sampled at the end of it.

Finished replacement nozzles staged for dimensional batch inspection
Dimensional accuracy
≤ 0.01 mm
Inner bore roughness
Ra ≤ 0.1 μm

Per batch

The values above apply to the features defined as critical on the confirmed drawing of the part being replaced. Where a customer drawing specifies a different tolerance, that drawing governs.

STEP 01

Incoming material

Material grade and hardness are checked against the drawing before machining starts.

STEP 02

In-process measurement

Critical dimensions are measured during machining, so any drift is corrected inside the batch rather than discovered after it.

STEP 03

Batch records

Inspection results are recorded against the production batch and can be provided with the shipment on request.

SUBMITTING A REFERENCE

How to Send a Part Number, Drawing or Photo

Send whichever reference you already hold. A short description of the equipment the part is fitted to helps us confirm the match in fewer exchanges.

BY PART NUMBER

Quote directly against the number you order today

Send the part number and the gun model or system it belongs to. If the number corresponds to an item we already produce, the specification and price are issued against it.

BY DRAWING

Attach the drawing to your enquiry

A 2D drawing with dimensions and tolerances, or a 3D model, is the most complete input. Add the quantity, the process it serves and the material if it is specified, and we will confirm the critical features before quoting.

BY PHOTO OR SAMPLE

When there is no document to send

Photographs of the worn part, a marking or a nameplate are enough to begin an identification. For a firm match on the dimensions, a sample part is measured and returned or replaced as agreed.

References are treated as customer information. Send them through the request-a-quote form or the contact page; both accept an attachment with the enquiry.
